We were approached by Tom and the Story team to get involved with a brand new restaurant concept at Trent Bridge Cricket Ground. Nottingham is Tom’s home town so he was keen to help them create an elevated dining experience that also supported the Prince’s Trust and an initiative to help the local youth explore careers in hospitality.

Our main challenge lay in creating warm, inviting dining spaces within the glazed boxes that are so necessary for watching cricket.

We were also determined to reference our unusual site without making the space feel themed. Subtle nods to balls and wickets are found in the half round timber dowels used as wall cladding and the circular motifs found in the formed timber screen that separates diners from the lift lobby. Chairs needed to be stylish and very comfortable so customer’s can focus on the match. An oversized bespoke globe chandelier helps the intimacy of the dining room as well as adding drama to the space.

The existing architecture meant that the bar area lies in a separate wing of the floor. We therefore wanted to accentuate this by having a completely different, darker, richer material palette that picked up on some of the same motifs, such as the dowels.

Limited space led to the creation of the Spirit Library that has a small cocktail mixing station in front with a ladder to access the wall of premium spirits that sits behind. The unit is topped by lockers that belong to the club’s members and somewhere they can store their vintage Cognac until the next time they are in.
